Piano Workout: 2 Chords, All Inversions & Modal Hexatonic Scales
Learn 2-chord piano exercises across Hexatonic and Barry Harris 6-Diminished scales, where just two chords can outline entire scales and modes. Jason Zac from Nathaniel School of Music explores how just two chords can outline whole scales and modes, practising all inversions while building hand independence and harmonic vocabulary. You'll start with Hexatonic (6-note) scales drawn from major, minor and modal systems like Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian and Mixolydian, then move into the Barry Harris 6-Diminished system. 🏫 Courses, Workshops or Private lessons ➡️ https://forms.gle/fsbhFKSgJbZ5xZEr8 00:00 - Performance 00:40 - Two Chords at a time with Inversions 01:46 - How to form Hexatonic Scales 02:30 - The Sunday (Gospel) Scale 02:44 - The 2 Alternating Triads - Bb Major & C minor 03:26 - Floating Inversions for Gospel Music 04:00 - The IV Chord (Plagal Cadence) 04:46 - A minor hexatonic from pentatonic 05:14 - Making It Hexatonic 05:43 - Comparing with the Pentatonic Scale 06:43 - Singing Chords with Voice Leading 07:13 - Dorian Hexatonic (Left Hand Practice) 07:39 - Building on Modal Sounds 07:53 - Dorian Mode 08:25 - Lydian Mode 09:10 - Great Piano Workout 09:30 - Phrygian Mode 10:13 - Mixolydian Mode 10:56 - Revision of the Hexatonic 13:07 - Two Octatonic Scales 13:35 - C Major 6 Diminished 14:04 - Resolution Notes with Swing feel 14:19 - C Major 6th Chord 15:04 - Diminished 7th 15:51 - Minor 6th Diminished Scale (Barry Harris) 17:37 - Conclusion ============================= 📹 Our Video Courses (Everything for Life Bundle) ➡️ https://learn-music.nathanielschool.com/ 🎹 Piano Courses & Private Lessons ➡️ https://piano.nathanielschool.com ============================= ▶️ Related Lessons & Playlists 🎵 Music Theory lessons ➡️ https://geni.us/PianoTheory 🎹 All our lessons on Chord Inversions (Playlist) ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrNNL05e9FT9ygtrGwGFmfyvMyGWH52EC 👂 Ear Training lessons ➡️ https://geni.us/EarTraining ============================= 🎓 Learn Music with Nathaniel School of Music & Jason Zac ➡️ https://nathanielschool.com 📚 All our YouTube lessons (1000+) by skill level, topic & genre ➡️ https://learning-portal.nathanielschool.com ============================= 💰 Donate on PayPal ➡️ https://geni.us/DonatePayPal 📸 Instagram ➡️ https://instagram.com/jasonzac 📞 Call +91 98454 65411 · 💬 WhatsApp chat +91 77604 56847 📧 Customised & Private Classes ➡️ music@nathanielschool.com 🎧 Listen to Jason Zac Music ➡️ https://riffs.jasonzacmusic.com/ #HexatonicScales #ChordInversions #BarryHarris
