Can You Hear the Seventh? Harmonic Ear Training Exercise
Can you hear the seventh above a chord? In Part 2 of this harmonic ear-training lesson, practise singing major and minor sevenths above a triad, then check the note on your instrument. Jason Zac from Nathaniel School of Music starts with a G major triad (G, B and D), demonstrates the major seventh and minor seventh, and explains how to check your singing against a tuned instrument. Randomise the chords to keep the exercise focused on hearing rather than memorising a pattern. Then try sevenths above minor triads and explore sixths above both major and minor triads. This follows Part 1, the exercise for finding the third in a triad. 🏫 Courses, Workshops or Private lessons ➡️ https://forms.gle/fsbhFKSgJbZ5xZEr8 ============================= 📹 Our Video Courses (Everything for Life Bundle) ➡️ https://learn-music.nathanielschool.com/ 🎹 Piano Courses & Private Lessons ➡️ https://piano.nathanielschool.com ============================= ▶️ Related Lessons & Playlists 🎵 Music Theory lessons ➡️ https://geni.us/PianoTheory 🎹 All our lessons on Chord Inversions (Playlist) ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrNNL05e9FT9ygtrGwGFmfyvMyGWH52EC 👂 Ear Training lessons ➡️ https://geni.us/EarTraining ============================= 🎓 Learn Music with Nathaniel School of Music & Jason Zac ➡️ https://nathanielschool.com 📚 All our YouTube lessons (1000+) by skill level, topic & genre ➡️ https://learning-portal.nathanielschool.com ============================= 💰 Donate on PayPal ➡️ https://geni.us/DonatePayPal 📸 Instagram ➡️ https://instagram.com/jasonzac 📞 +91 77604 56847 (Mobile & WhatsApp) 📧 Customised & Private Classes ➡️ music@nathanielschool.com 🎧 Listen to Jason Zac Music ➡️ https://riffs.jasonzacmusic.com/ #EarTraining #SeventhChords #MusicTheory Chapters 00:00 Harmonic ear training: identifying sevenths 00:21 Sing the seventh above a major triad 00:45 Major seventh and minor seventh 01:05 Check your pitch on your instrument 01:23 Sing the minor seventh and hear a dominant seventh 02:11 Randomise chords instead of memorising a pattern 02:32 Sing sevenths over different chords 03:30 Hearing the seventh directly 04:02 Sing sevenths above minor triads 04:24 Practise sixths above major and minor triads 05:15 Recap of the two ear-training exercises Previous lesson: Ear Training for Harmonic Triads (Part 1) https://youtu.be/K5mKZzw-EXk
