Play the Modes on Piano Using Just ONE Chord (Major & Minor)
You don't have to learn a mode before you can use it — in this lesson you'll experience the sound of the modes on the piano using just a single major or minor chord plus intervals and triads. Jason Zac from Nathaniel School of Music shows how one C major chord lives inside many scales, and how to bring out a "modal" sound using diatonic thirds and triads. You'll add exotic flavour with the Phrygian Dominant scale, explore modal textures and the Dorian mode over a minor chord, and even create a "theatric" sound using modal thirds. The big idea: start with one or two chords and derive the mode or scale from there — a faster, more musical way into modal playing and modal interchange. 🏫 Courses, Workshops or Private lessons ➡️ https://forms.gle/fsbhFKSgJbZ5xZEr8 ============================= 📹 Our Video Courses (Everything for Life Bundle) ➡️ https://learn-music.nathanielschool.com/ 🎹 Piano Courses & Private Lessons ➡️ https://piano.nathanielschool.com ============================= ▶️ Related Lessons & Playlists 🎼 Beautiful Minor Chord Progressions (Playlist) ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrNNL05e9FT80WvDyjWk5dHdOFiO-_zIn 🎵 Cadences, Circle of Fifths & Secondary Dominants (Playlist) ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrNNL05e9FT_sKjWd1c7K_S55cZ15jAKI 🎹 Music Theory ➡️ https://geni.us/PianoTheory ============================= 🎓 Learn Music with Nathaniel School of Music & Jason Zac ➡️ https://nathanielschool.com 📚 All our YouTube lessons (1000+) by skill level, topic & genre ➡️ https://learning-portal.nathanielschool.com ============================= ⏱️ Chapters 00:00 Performance 00:45 Introduction 01:07 What Constitutes a "Modal" Sound? 07:35 Using Diatonic Thirds to Develop a Modal Sound 11:27 Using Diatonic Triads to Develop a Modal Sound 12:03 What is an "Exotic" Flavour? 13:49 Using the Phrygian Dominant Scale 15:20 Modal Textures for the Minor Chord 15:45 Exploring the Dorian Scale/Mode 20:01 A "Theatric" Sound Using Modal Thirds 22:11 Revision 💰 Donate on PayPal ➡️ https://geni.us/DonatePayPal 📸 Instagram ➡️ https://instagram.com/jasonzac 📞 Call +91 98454 65411 · 💬 WhatsApp chat +91 77604 56847 📧 Customised & Private Classes ➡️ music@nathanielschool.com 🎧 Listen to Jason Zac Music ➡️ https://riffs.jasonzacmusic.com/ #PianoModes #ModalHarmony #MusicTheory
