Compose & Improvise Better Melodies Using Scale & Chord Tones (Piano)
Using simple 2-chord progressions (cadences), we combine scalar and chordal motion to compose and improvise melodies on the fly. Taking diatonic harmony from the minor scales (natural, harmonic and Dorian) and using tonic, subdominant and dominant chords, learn how to create melody lines using the notes of the chord as well as the scale, in both directions. 🏫 Courses, Workshops or Private lessons ➡️ https://forms.gle/fsbhFKSgJbZ5xZEr8 00:00 - Performance 00:32 - Choosing notes for a Melody Line 01:35 - The Choice of Minor 02:31 - G Natural, Harmonic & Dorian 03:24 - Theory of the “Hybrid” Minor Chords 03:36 - Chord Energy States 06:13 - Go to chords for Minor Scales & Dorian 08:19 - Take each chord for 2 or 4 beats 08:53 - Choosing other Diatonic Chords 10:14 - Landing on a Chord Tone 11:13 - Recap of G minor to D minor 12:57 - Binary Aspect of Improvisation 15:18 - Landing on Tensions & Extensions 16:59 - Tip 2: Follow pentatonic or chord tones 17:22 - Tip 3: Combine Scalar & Chordal Motion 17:40 - Step vs Leapwize Motion 18:40 - Conclusion ============================= 📹 Our Video Courses (Everything for Life Bundle) ➡️ https://learn-music.nathanielschool.com/ 🎹 Piano Courses & Private Lessons ➡️ https://piano.nathanielschool.com ============================= ▶️ Related Lessons & Playlists 🎵 Music Theory lessons ➡️ https://geni.us/PianoTheory 🎹 All our lessons on Chord Inversions (Playlist) ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrNNL05e9FT9ygtrGwGFmfyvMyGWH52EC 👂 Ear Training lessons ➡️ https://geni.us/EarTraining ============================= 🎓 Learn Music with Nathaniel School of Music & Jason Zac ➡️ https://nathanielschool.com 📚 All our YouTube lessons (1000+) by skill level, topic & genre ➡️ https://learning-portal.nathanielschool.com ============================= 💰 Donate on PayPal ➡️ https://geni.us/DonatePayPal 📸 Instagram ➡️ https://instagram.com/jasonzac 📞 Call +91 98454 65411 · 💬 WhatsApp chat +91 77604 56847 📧 Customised & Private Classes ➡️ music@nathanielschool.com 🎧 Listen to Jason Zac Music ➡️ https://riffs.jasonzacmusic.com/ #MelodyImprovisation #ChordTones #PianoImprovisation
