Rhythmic Anticipation on Piano: The Trick That Makes Any Pattern Groove
Rhythmic anticipation is the simple displacement trick that instantly makes a flat chord pattern feel like it grooves — and this lesson shows you exactly how to do it on piano. Jason Zac from Nathaniel School of Music teaches rhythmic anticipation: pushing the first beat of alternate bars onto the nearest preceding sub-beat so your accompaniment stops feeling stiff. First you'll learn beat subdivision and how to feel eighth notes and sixteenth notes. Then you'll displace the right-hand chord pattern to anticipate the downbeat of bar two, using a simple progression from the D major scale (D – A – G – D). It's a small change with a big payoff — the same rhythmic feel behind countless modern pop and worship grooves. 🏫 Courses, Workshops or Private lessons ➡️ https://forms.gle/fsbhFKSgJbZ5xZEr8 ============================= 📹 Our Video Courses (Everything for Life Bundle) ➡️ https://learn-music.nathanielschool.com/ 🎹 Piano Courses & Private Lessons ➡️ https://piano.nathanielschool.com ============================= ▶️ Related Lessons & Playlists 🥁 All our lessons on Rhythm (Playlist) ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrNNL05e9FT85tF6cGvZK6jc5u6yZg5uU 🎹 All our lessons on Chord Inversions (Playlist) ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrNNL05e9FT9ygtrGwGFmfyvMyGWH52EC 🎵 Music Theory lessons ➡️ https://geni.us/PianoTheory ============================= 🎓 Learn Music with Nathaniel School of Music & Jason Zac ➡️ https://nathanielschool.com 📚 All our YouTube lessons (1000+) by skill level, topic & genre ➡️ https://learning-portal.nathanielschool.com ============================= 💰 Donate on PayPal ➡️ https://geni.us/DonatePayPal 📸 Instagram ➡️ https://instagram.com/jasonzac 📞 Call +91 98454 65411 · 💬 WhatsApp chat +91 77604 56847 📧 Customised & Private Classes ➡️ music@nathanielschool.com 🎧 Listen to Jason Zac Music ➡️ https://riffs.jasonzacmusic.com/ #RhythmicAnticipation #PianoRhythm #PianoLesson Chapters 00:00 Rhythmic anticipation on piano 01:23 D major, G major and A major inversions 02:44 Start with even chord hits 04:03 Count the eighth-note subdivision 05:02 Soft left-hand fifths and octaves 05:59 Anticipate the next chord on four-and 07:02 Alternate onbeat and offbeat chord changes 08:14 Keep the left hand independent 08:52 Practise the anticipation on one chord 09:38 Move to a sixteenth-note feel 10:21 Anticipate on the last sixteenth of beat four 11:40 Add soft thumb notes 12:24 Recap the two anticipation feels
