Funky Dorian Piano Groove: Master the Off-Beats (Part 1)
Groove on the piano starts with playing the "off" beats confidently — in Part 1 of this series you'll build hand independence and a funky feel using chord progressions from the Dorian mode. Jason Zac from Nathaniel School of Music walks you step by step from the pulse hits outward to the off-beats. You'll form the Dorian scale and its chords, toggle the pulse, get comfortable playing everything "off" except beat 1, then build a popular eighth-note funky groove and a swung broken-chord feel. It's a practical, groove-first approach to rhythm — train your hands to lock into subdivisions and the funk takes care of itself. This is Part 1 of 3. 🏫 Courses, Workshops or Private lessons ➡️ https://forms.gle/fsbhFKSgJbZ5xZEr8 ============================= 📹 Our Video Courses (Everything for Life Bundle) ➡️ https://learn-music.nathanielschool.com/ 🎹 Piano Courses & Private Lessons ➡️ https://piano.nathanielschool.com ============================= ▶️ Related Lessons & Playlists 🧙🏽 How to Compose Using the Dorian Mode ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCFZhIyG0Y8 🥁 All Things Rhythm (Playlist) ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrNNL05e9FT8AILe58QHSRI7c3I6LKcWI 📍 How the Roman Numeral System Works ➡️ https://youtu.be/mxVzktPGxaY ============================= 🎓 Learn Music with Nathaniel School of Music & Jason Zac ➡️ https://nathanielschool.com 📚 All our YouTube lessons (1000+) by skill level, topic & genre ➡️ https://learning-portal.nathanielschool.com ============================= ⏱️ Chapters 00:00 Introduction 00:21 Lesson Goals 01:05 Toggle Pulse 02:38 Forming a Dorian Scale 03:36 Chords of the Dorian 05:53 Rhythm Pattern 1 07:34 Minums in the Right Hand 09:30 Getting Acquainted with the Off-Beats 10:46 Everything "Off" Except the 1 13:15 Eighth Note Funky Groove 16:59 Swung Broken Chord Feel 19:15 Revision of the Patterns 💰 Donate on PayPal ➡️ https://geni.us/DonatePayPal 📸 Instagram ➡️ https://instagram.com/jasonzac 📞 Call +91 98454 65411 · 💬 WhatsApp chat +91 77604 56847 📧 Customised & Private Classes ➡️ music@nathanielschool.com 🎧 Listen to Jason Zac Music ➡️ https://riffs.jasonzacmusic.com/ #DorianMode #PianoGroove #FunkPiano
