3 Notes in B Major — But the Rhythm Will Trick Your Brain 🎹⚡

Take just three notes and turn them into an endless practice session. The Pendulum Exercise develops rhythm, dynamics, finger independence and musical creativity all at once. We work in the key of B major using just B, C# and D#, moving them in a pendulum pattern (1-2-3-2-1). The real learning happens when we group these notes in sets of 3, 4, 5 and even 7 while keeping the same tempo and pulse, so you feel rhythmic accents beyond standard time signatures. The left hand plays B major, G# minor, E add9 and F# with quintal voicings, add2 shapes and smooth inversions. For intermediate pianists, singers practising Carnatic or Hindustani swaras, and guitarists who want to improve their rhythmic phrasing. The lesson also introduces our free Pendulum app for practising every key, pattern and grouping with a metronome.
